How To Build A Mailing List

As a new real estate agent, you need a good mailing list to start your email and newsletter marketing campaigns. So what are your options? Well, the easiest way is to buy one. But you might waste time and money on people who might not be viable prospects. So why not try to make one yourself? You will end up with a list of good leads that are all your own.

How to get them? Simple, just ask people for their emails.

·        Door-to-door – When you make your rounds introducing yourself to the neighborhood you are farming in, don't forget to ask homeowners for email addresses and permission to send them your newsletters or promotional messages.

·        Cold calls – A good way to profit from cold calling is by gathering email addresses. So instead of trying to aggressively sell yourself, why not take a subtler, friendlier approach and offer them a free email course or a newsletter subscription?

·        Networking –Join chambers of commerce, charitable groups, local clubs (such as: the drama club, the book club, bible study), participate to conventions. While you get involved and make a good name for yourself, don't forget to ask everyone you meet for emails and swap business cards.

·        Host events – You can organize seminars, host neighborhood parties and barbeques, charity events. To get emails, either ask for them, swap business cards or provide registration cards for your guests to fill in.

·        Surveys – Conduct periodic surveys either dealing with neighborhood issues or with business issues. Either ask for an email reply, or provide a form, asking for contact data. For example, you can try asking people how much time they spend on the internet, what kind of websites they browse, whether they subscribed to any newsletters and other similar questions. That way, you will get precious information, beside the email addresses.

·        Ask everyone - Always ask customers and visitors to your office for their email, as well as people calling for information.

You can also use other people's help and get new addresses from reliable sources.

·        Use your close circle – Ask your friends, neighbors and acquaintances about people interested in buying or selling their house. Then, request their email addresses.

·        Partner with businesses that target the same market – Join your efforts with accountants, mortgage brokers, lawyers, moving companies. Swap mailing lists, and get yourself mentioned on their promotional materials. The trick is not to partner up with competitors, of course.

·        Ask for referrals from your friends – You can also offer prizes and special offers to those who bring you new business.

And finally, get your name out there and wait for people to come to you.

·        Use your website – Put up a sign-up form for newsletter, as well as a popup asking for email addresses in exchange for some gift, ebook or free email course. Offer various services (home price evaluation, mortgage information) to be sent by email.

·        Obviously, write a newsletter. When people subscribe, you'll get email addresses that are quality leads at the same time.

·        Include subscribing information for your newsletter in your press releases, articles, email signatures, forum signatures.

·        Include newsletter subscription information on all your printed materials and business cards. Place them in places where people gather – diners, restaurants, barber salons, dentists' waiting room .

Using these simple and cheap methods, you are sure to get a hefty, quality mailing list in no time at all. Good luck!
